Drawing on my study of art and graphics at school, later architectural training, and practical experience of website design over the last 10 years, my aim is to provide simple, easy to use and clearly navigable websites with harmonious colour themes and good proportions. As a web user myself I keep in mind, while designing a website, that the most important function of a web site for the user is that they can find the information they are seeking speedily, without having to wade through a mass of irrelevant options.
As a
web designer I offer two specialised services.
The first is the
provision of practical, uncomplicated, low cost web sites: suitable for
small businesses or tradesmen.
The second, (while still maintaining
the principals of clarity, ease of navigation etc.), involves the
use of my graphic knowledge and artwork to produce highly decorative
websites, as pictured in the bottom two screenshots shown on the right.
This latter service is necessarily more expensive, involving hours of
painstaking work with graphics programs, and much more complicated
coding for the CSS and HTML.
While I have not been on any course to learn website design, I have picked up considerable knowledge over 10 years of evenings and weekends spent in front of the P.C. trying out different website packages, researching how html code and CSS works, asking questions on forums, reading through various SEO (search engine optimisation) reports, and in fact learning everything I needed to know about how to design, maintain, and promote a small business website. From my initial efforts using a WYSIWYG package, with very little knowledge of the underlying code, I have progressed to the stage were I now design WC3 compliant websites using CSS style sheets, and hand code the HTML code for the web pages.
During that time I have established the location of many varied resources. From html code checkers to the best copyright free image sites, I know where to find the right tools. I have also located a website host who provides free and cheap website hosting with an unprecedented level of support. Because I have already done all this research in relation to my own site, I can save you the trouble and cost of having to do it for yourself.
